A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the Ministry of Finance and the Republic of Korea to establish a cyber bureau with capacity building for the Nepal Police.

In the presence of Inspector General of Police Dhiraj Pratap Singh and an officer of the Nepal Police Cyber ​​Bureau, the agreement was signed by Finance Secretary Krishnahari Pushkar on behalf of the Government of Nepal and Chod-Suk Park, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Nepal on behalf of the Republic of Korea, at a program held at the Ministry of Finance on Friday.

The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) will provide a grant of 8 million US dollars, which is about 1 billion rupees, to enhance the capacity of the Cyber ​​Bureau.

In the program, Finance Secretary Pushkar said that the project of enabling and equipping the Cyber ​​Bureau will be important to control the increasing incidence of cybercrime.

In the program, Ambassador Park of the Republic of Korea expressed his concern about the rate of cybercrime that is increasing widely all over the world and also in Nepal and said that a cybercrime control project to enhance the capacity of the Nepal Police to control cybercrime will be an important help.

The main objective of the project is to strengthen the capacity of the Nepal Police against cybercrime, build a state-of-the-art building of the Cyber ​​Bureau, provide equipment related to cyber crime investigation and a digital forensic lab, and enhance the capacity of the Nepal Police’s related manpower.

The South Korean government is also going to provide an additional one billion in grant support for the stable reintegration of Nepali workers who have returned from working in Korea.
