Insurance Protective Services organized a two-day Marine Insurance workshop from January 2 to 3, 2025, at the Royal Singi Hotel in Kathmandu.

The event, held under the theme “Navigating Risks, Ensuring Confidence,” was a significant achievement for the newly registered company. Despite being their inaugural event, it was executed seamlessly, setting a high bar for future initiatives.

Industry Leaders and Representatives Participate

The workshop attracted participants from 12 life insurance companies, two reinsurance companies, insurance brokers, and surveyors. Professionals from various departments across the insurance sector attended, contributing to a rich and comprehensive experience. It marked the first-ever program by Insurance Protective Services, and the grand execution impressed attendees.

Inaugural Ceremony with Distinguished Guests

Chankey Kshetri, the President of the Nepal Insurance Association and Executive Chief of Sagarmatha Lumbini Insurance Company Limited, served as the Chief Guest.

Special guests included Prof. Dr. Fatt Bahadur KC, former Chairman of the Nepal Insurance Authority, and Rajuram Poudel, former Executive Chief of the Nepal Insurance Authority. Their presence added significant value to the event.

Official Opening with Lamp Lighting Ceremony

The event officially began with a lamp-lighting ceremony, led by Chankey Kshetri and Anjan Dhakal, the Managing Director of Insurance Protective Services. This gesture symbolized the start of the workshop, followed by speeches that set the tone for the two-day training.

Expert Trainer Samiran Lahiri Leads Sessions

Samiran Lahiri, an expert trainer from India, led the sessions. Lahiri holds a Master’s degree in Economics and the AIII qualification.

He is the Executive Director of Preferred Partners Insurance Brokers in India and a member of the UNISON STEADFAST network. Lahiri brings over 40 years of experience in the insurance industry, having worked with leading companies across India, Mauritius, and Nepal.

Key Topics Discussed at the Workshop

The workshop covered various aspects of marine insurance, including policies, practices, and international standards. Participants engaged in detailed discussions about challenges and opportunities within the marine insurance sector.

Topics such as risk management and the growing importance of marine insurance were also explored. The event provided valuable insights and enhanced the participants’ knowledge of marine insurance.

Concluding Remarks by Kumar Bahadur Khatri

The workshop concluded with a speech by Kumar Bahadur Khatri, Executive Chairman of Insurance Protective Services.

Khatri emphasized the increasing importance of marine insurance in Nepal. He urged participants to apply the knowledge gained during the workshop to improve trust and efficiency in the Nepali insurance market. He also encouraged participants to use their newfound insights to help build a more reliable and robust insurance sector in Nepal.

The successful completion of the workshop marks a key milestone in the development of Nepal’s marine insurance industry.
