Nepal PM Calls For ICT Investment
Pushing for a Digital and Modern Nepal
Speaking at a special event organized by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, PM Oli urged both the public and private sectors to work together to build a technologically empowered Nepal. “Let’s take one step forward each day with the vision of making Nepal a modern, digital nation,” he stated.
He noted that ICT is critical to good governance, development, and improving service delivery across Nepal. The Prime Minister called for the expansion of digital services to every corner of the country to ensure that citizens benefit from efficient and transparent governance.
Encouraging Confidence and Progress
“There is immense potential for investment in Nepal. Let’s work with confidence that we can bring transformation during our time,” said PM Oli. He added that ICT tools are increasingly being used in education, governance, and service delivery, pointing to last year’s online classes initiated to support SEE (Secondary Education Examination) students after a 52% failure rate. “Such digital initiatives should be encouraged,” he emphasized.
Establishing Secure National Data Systems
Prime Minister Oli underlined the importance of building a secure, sovereign data infrastructure, stating that it is essential for the country’s digital future. “We’ve come a long way from needing ministerial influence just to get a telephone line,” he said. “Today, we are initiating plans to launch our satellite and have already prepared more than 100 young tech professionals ready to lead in this space.”
Warning Against Technology Misuse
While praising the growth of digital technology, PM Oli also warned against its misuse, saying, “We must be alert to ensure that technology is not used to harm people.” He emphasized ethical digital practices and the responsible use of ICT.
New Digital Milestones
During the program, PM Oli launched the integration of Bagmati Province’s driver’s licenses and vehicle ownership certificates (Blue Book) into the Nagarik App, enhancing citizen access to essential services through mobile platforms.
As part of the celebrations, notable individuals and institutions were awarded for their contributions to Nepal’s ICT sector. Among the recipients was Professor Dr. Shashidhar Ram Joshi, who was honored with the National ICT Award 2082.
