A total of 17 candidates have submitted applications for the position of Managing Director at Nepal Telecom (NTC).

The vacancy was announced by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MoCIT) on June 4, 2024.

The post has remained vacant since the suspension of the former MD, Sunil Paudel, over charges of financial irregularities in the National Payment Gateway system purchase.

Here are some key points about the applicants:

Internal Candidates: Eleven out of the 17 applicants are from within Nepal Telecom itself.

Among them is the current acting MD, Sangita Pahadi, who has been leading the company since October 4, 2023.

Other internal candidates include managers Rajesh Joshi, Dr. Shaligram Parajuli, Ananta Prakash Mallik, Dr. Bimal Acharya, Krishna Prasad Bhandari, and several others.

The list also includes other candidates, Laxman Maharjan, Kedarnath Koirala, Kamal Lamichhane, Shalikram Subedi, and Prem Prasad Silwal (currently working as directors in the company), who have applied.

Buddhi Prasad Acharya, a former MD of Nepal Telecom, is also among the applicants.

Diverse Backgrounds: Chintamani Baral from NTV, Anil Kumar Jha from Janak Shiksha Samagri Kendra, and Nagendra Kumar Das from DDC have expressed interest in the NTC MD post. Ramesh Prasad Joshi, with previous experience at UTL/VAS, and Subash Shah are also candidates.

The ministry will evaluate candidates based on their work plans, presentations, educational qualifications, and work experience.

Three shortlisted candidates will be recommended to the government, which will then appoint the next managing director for Nepal’s largest telecommunication service provider.
