The event, organized by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), will run from October 14-18. Minister Adhikari is leading the Nepali delegation, which includes officials from the Ministry and the President of the Agriculture, Cooperatives, and Natural Resources Committee of the House of Representatives, Kusum Thapa.

Focus on Food Safety and Food Purity

Nepal’s participation in the WFF 2024 is crucial when global discussions around food security, sustainability, and agricultural innovation are gaining momentum. The Nepali delegation is expected to showcase the country’s efforts on food safety and food purity.

These initiatives align with the theme of this year’s forum, “Good Food for All, for Today and Tomorrow.”

Minister Adhikari’s team will highlight Nepal’s policies and actions to ensure the quality of food products and the integrity of its food systems.

This will also provide an opportunity to share Nepal’s progress in agricultural reform and rural development with international stakeholders.

World Food Forum 2024: Key Themes and Pillars

The World Food Forum 2024 is centered around three major pillars:

Global Youth Action – Engaging young leaders to innovate and collaborate for sustainable food systems.
Science and Innovation – Leveraging scientific advancements to enhance food security.
Hand-in-Hand Investment – Fostering partnerships for inclusive and sustainable agrifood investments.

This year’s event is expected to build on the success of previous forums, aiming to drive real-world solutions that address global hunger, food inequality, and climate-related agricultural challenges.

FAO’s Broader Initiatives: Water Scarcity and Family Farming

In addition to the core agenda of the WFF, the 2024 edition will also include the World Food Day celebrations and the High-Level Rome Water Dialogue on WASAG – The Global Framework on Water Scarcity in Agriculture. Discussions will focus on combating water scarcity, a critical issue for agrarian economies like Nepal. The Global Family Farming Forum will further provide a platform to discuss the future of family farming, an essential component of Nepal’s rural economy.

The FAO aims to create a more inclusive and sustainable future for agrifood systems through dialogues, investments, and policy recommendations. Nepal’s active participation in these global conversations signifies the country’s commitment to food security, environmental sustainability, and rural development.

Global Importance of the World Food Forum 2024

The World Food Forum has grown into a global platform for governments, NGOs, youth organizations, and private enterprises to collaborate on addressing the challenges of feeding a growing population while maintaining environmental balance. By participating in this event, Nepal strengthens its global partnerships and enhances its role in shaping the future of sustainable agriculture and food security.

Minister Adhikari’s participation is expected to open doors for future collaborations and investments, paving the way for Nepal to adopt cutting-edge agricultural innovations, boost food production, and improve livelihoods in rural areas.

As the world navigates increasing challenges in food systems, Nepal’s voice in these critical discussions underscores the importance of collaborative efforts in ensuring good food for all today and in the future.
