The British College launched Nepal’s first-ever BSc (Hons) Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics course, with a program at the Soaltee Hotel, Kathmandu.

During his inaugural speech, Mr. Mishra said, “Ever since Nepal had a national ATM attack, NRB have felt that there is a huge demand for digital forensic experts. Mr. Anil Kumar Dutta, the Joint Secretary of Ministry of Communication and Information Technology also spoke at the event and explained that he is currently trying to establish a cyber security center, and further encouraged other colleges in Nepal to follow in TBC’s footsteps and bring courses like this to the country to give students the opportunity to stay here to receive their degrees.

Mr. Vishal Upadhyaya, the Chief Information Officer of Ncell, then presented facts and figures which showed the growth and challenges in the field at this point in time. In addition, representatives from Facts Nepal made presentations that highlighted the significance of the course.

A panel discussion then followed, which was moderated by Dr. Rajib Subba, former Deputy Inspector General of Nepal Police. The panel consisted of Mr. Bijay Kumar Roy, Director of the Monitoring Division of Nepal Telecom Authority (NTA); Mr. Binay Khadka, CEO of Khalti; Mr. Narayan Koirala, Managing Director of Eminence Ways; Mr. Pashupati Ray, Superintendent of Nepal Police (Cyber Bureau); Mr. Sujit Shrestha, COO of Standard Chartered Bank; Ms. Yasmine Bhattarrai, Information Security Unit Head of NCell and Founder President of Center For Cybersecurity Research and Innovation (CSRI) Mr. Chiranjibi Adhikari Together they highlighted the current situation of cyber security and digital forensic in Nepal and welcomed questions from the audience.

He announced that admissions for all courses were now open, and said of this new program, “Nepal is fast moving towards the digital economy. As a result, there is a huge demand for cyber security and digital forensics expertise.
