illa Adhikari

8th December 2022, Kathmandu

Nepal’s Ila Adhikari has won the prestigious AnitaB.org Systers Pass It On Award, 2022, for NWiC Celebrate.

NWiC Celebrate is an initiative by Nepali Women in Computing that covers powerful Nepali women in Technology and their journey of hard work and achievement.

Ila, the manager of the same project, is awarded the award for her Storytelling and sharing the stories of inspiring women in Technology through NWiC and empowering them.

By profession, Ila is an Engineer and has worked as a Software Developer. She is also a writer and an Educator. And, Storytelling has always been her priority in writing and teaching.

As a woman in tech in Nepal, Ila has found that the participation of women in Technology is far less than men. With 52% of the total population being women and only 26% of them in Science and Technology and 7% in research, she believes the number needs to increase.

And as an advocate of diversity and inclusiveness, she is sharing the inspiring stories of women through NWiC to motivate and empower young girls and motivate them to choose tech as a career.

Believing in the power of stories, NWiC Celebrate was started in November 2019 as a platform to celebrate the accomplishment of Nepal Women throughout the world. The project also aims to break the stereotype of women in Nepalese society, which limits women’s growth and does not take them seriously in tech.

So far, Celebrate has been able to cover the stories of 26 powerful Nepali women in tech across the globe. They publish stories every month on their medium page and website and share the incredible achievement of women.

As part of the dream of Celebrate, the team wants to reach a large audience, empower more girls, and make them pursue a career in tech.
