Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli launched a nationwide HPV vaccination campaign against cervical cancer. He stressed the importance of collective efforts to achieve the success of the “Healthy Nepal Campaign.”

The event, organized by the Ministry of Health and Population, marked World Cancer Day with a focus on promoting public health.
Government’s Commitment to Public Health
At the launch event at Shivpuri Secondary School in Maharajgunj, the Prime Minister emphasized the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure the well-being of all Nepalis. He stated that the government’s goal is to free citizens from diseases and hardships. “We aim to ensure that everyone has access to proper healthcare, both in terms of prevention and treatment,” said Oli.
Encouraging Healthy Living
Prime Minister Oli encouraged people to adopt a healthy lifestyle, focusing on a balanced and nutritious diet. He also praised the collective effort that led to overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic and expressed confidence that the HPV vaccination campaign would be similarly successful. Oli urged that no eligible girl be left out of receiving the vaccine.
Nationwide Vaccination Drive
The nationwide vaccination campaign, which started today, will run until 18 February. It targets about 1.7 million girls, including those aged 10 to 14 years, and students in grades 6 to 10. The program will take place across schools and other locations to ensure that as many girls as possible are vaccinated.
Fighting Cervical Cancer with Prevention
The HPV vaccination aims to reduce the risk of cervical cancer, one of the most common forms of cancer affecting women in Nepal. The vaccine, provided free of charge, will protect girls from the virus that can lead to cervical cancer. This initiative is part of the government’s broader health goals to improve the overall health and longevity of the population.
Reaching the Right Target Group
The vaccination campaign targets girls who are at the ideal age for receiving the vaccine to ensure effective protection against cervical cancer. The program aims to reach young girls who may not have easy access to healthcare services, ensuring broad coverage across the country.

With this vaccination initiative, the government is taking a significant step toward reducing cervical cancer rates in Nepal. The campaign aims to protect the future health of thousands of young girls, ensuring a healthier generation and contributing to the broader goal of a “Healthy Nepal.”
