Parliament’s demand to scrutinize the Telecommunications Act amendment draft, work is being done to change the law in the setting.

In the parliamentary meeting held on Thursday, the lawmaker demanded a discussion on the amendment proposal of the Telecommunications Act.

Speaking in the parliamentary meeting on Friday, a member of parliament from the Communist Party of Nepal, Raghujee Pant, opposed the amendment proposal to the Telecommunications Act, which had been forwarded by the Nepal Telecommunications Authority.

They have reported that they have initiated the amendment of the Telecommunications Act to prevent the transfer of ownership of the telecommunications company Ncell to the government within a few years.

The company is operating by amending the bill to prevent the transfer of ownership to the government and keeping provisions to never let it come under government ownership. Pant said, ‘The former Secretary of Communications was removed from his position due to his opposition to the same bill.

Even though there was controversy, the Minister of Communications and the Prime Minister have not yet commented, expressing their anger.

They have pointed out that it is wrong to carry out illegal activities by changing the law and bringing it under government ownership.

The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority has demanded an investigation into the misuse of power regarding the recently amended Telecommunications Act.
