Newa-Flix Launched: Nepal Bhasa’s First OTT Platform to Stream Cinema and Culture Globally

Nepal Bhasa’s first Over-The-Top (OTT) digital streaming platform, Newa-Flix, has been officially announced amid a special event held at Kirtipur Cineplex.

The platform is presented by Elohan Entertainment with the aim of bringing Nepal Bhasa films, music, culture, and heritage content to global audiences through digital technology.
The event was attended by the Chairperson of the Nepal Film Development Board, Dinesh DC, as the chief guest. In his address, he recalled the era of cultural movements and emphasized the importance of digital transformation in preserving and promoting language, heritage, and cinema.
He highlighted the need to digitize classic works such as Silu and Rajmati, stressing that platforms like Newa-Flix can play a vital role in strengthening Nepal Bhasa cinema and ensuring its wider accessibility.
Nareshbir Shakya, Managing Director of Elohan Prakashan, shared that the publication house has been operating continuously for 26 years. With rapidly evolving technology, he stated that the launch of Ellohan Entertainment marks a strategic step toward adapting to the digital era and expanding the reach of Nepal Bhasa content worldwide.
Narendra Maharjan, Chairperson and operator of Kirtipur Cineplex, expressed his commitment to supporting the screening of Nepal Bhasa films. Reflecting on the transformation of film distribution from traditional reel formats to digital premieres, he noted that OTT platforms now represent a growing trend in content release. Senior photographer Rajbhai Suwal also voiced confidence that digital streaming will allow Nepal Bhasa cinema to reach audiences across the globe.

COO of Elohan Entertainment, Darshanbir Shakya, described Newa-Flix as a new milestone for the Nepal Bhasa community. He shared that the platform is the result of two years of dedicated effort and will enable viewers to stream Nepal Bhasa films and music videos via the internet.
Emphasizing inclusivity, he said the platform will especially benefit audiences who are unable to visit cinema halls. Recalling the historical restrictions once imposed on Nepal Bhasa around 2022 B.S., he noted that times have changed, and it is essential to move forward with the evolving digital landscape.
The event was chaired by Pragya Devi Shakya, President of Elohan Entertainment, who formally announced the launch of Newa-Flix. She reiterated the organization’s commitment to promoting Nepal Bhasa films, culture, and heritage globally through digital media and presented tokens of appreciation to the guests.
The technical operations of the platform are being handled by Plutonic Media.
With its launch, Newa-Flix is expected to serve as a powerful digital platform to commercialize and promote Nepal Bhasa cinema, expanding its reach beyond geographical boundaries and into the global streaming ecosystem.
