Sharad Oja, Chairman of the Nepal Insurance Authority (NIA), met with Ugyen Choden, Deputy Governor of Bhutan’s Royal Monetary Authority (RMA), at the NIA’s central office in Kupondol, Lalitpur. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the insurance sector.

Both sides discussed the current state of the insurance industries in Nepal and Bhutan. Chairman Oja shared Nepal’s experience in risk-based capital, risk-based supervision, and reinsurance practices. He expressed NIA’s willingness to support Bhutan in these areas.
Deputy Governor Choden acknowledged Nepal’s expertise. She stated that Bhutan could benefit from Nepal’s knowledge of risk-based capital and supervision. Choden emphasized Bhutan’s commitment to deepening collaboration with Nepal for the growth of the insurance sector.
The meeting also explored opportunities for mutual learning. Both sides discussed exchanging best practices to address challenges and drive innovation in the insurance industry. They agreed to work together to create a more robust and resilient insurance sector.
Chairman Oja highlighted the importance of strengthening bilateral relations. He expressed NIA’s readiness to share its experiences and support Bhutan’s efforts in the insurance sector.
The event was attended by Executive Director Sushil Dev Suvedi, Director Pujan Dhungel (Officer), and other NIA officials. Senior representatives from Bhutan’s Royal Monetary Authority also participated.
This meeting marks a significant milestone in the growing partnership between Nepal and Bhutan in the insurance sector. Both countries have demonstrated a strong commitment to working together, sharing knowledge, and exchanging best practices to address challenges and drive innovation.
