NIC Asia Bank, a leader in dynamic and digital banking, has officially launched its Mastercard Issuance service, aimed at enhancing the payment system for its millions of customers. The new service was unveiled during a special event held in Pokhara on Sunday.

The Mastercard, which can be used as a debit card, is available at all branch offices of NIC Asia Bank. The card features state-of-the-art security technology, including an EMV Chip and Contactless technology, ensuring secure and convenient transactions.

VIP customers will benefit from the ability to make POS and e-commerce payments, as well as ATM withdrawals in Nepal, India, and Bhutan. This collaboration with the globally renowned Mastercard aligns with NIC Asia Bank’s goal of becoming a ‘digital first’ bank, and is expected to significantly elevate Nepal’s banking sector.

Previously, NIC Asia Bank, the leading commercial bank in the country, offered services through VISA cards. The bank has since expanded its infrastructure to include 360 branch offices, 670 ATMs, 118 extended counters, and 51 branchless branch networks nationwide.

Serving approximately 25 percent of the economically active population aged 20 to 50, NIC Asia Bank is committed to responsible banking practices that support economic development and growth. Since its inception, the bank has contributed over Rs. 23.70 billion in revenue to the Government of Nepal, including more than Rs. 3.61 billion in the last fiscal year alone.

NIC Asia Bank Launches Mastercard Issuance Service

To promote financial inclusion, NIC Asia Bank is extending its reach to remote districts with limited banking presence, such as Mugu, Kalikot, Bajhang, Rukum, Jumla, and Salyan. The bank is also operating in more than 34 local bodies that previously lacked banking and financial institutions.

Currently, 72% of NIC Asia Bank’s branch offices are located in rural and small urban areas, where over 80% of Nepal’s population resides. This strategic placement underscores the bank’s dedication to serving the diverse needs of its customers across the country.
