The festival of Indra Jatra is dedicated to the ‘Lord of Heaven’ Indra. The festival is also named Yenya festival Held just before Nepal celebrates its biggest festival, Dashain, the festival consists of two events, Indira Jatra and Kumari Jatra.

Legend has it that Indra was captured by the people of Kathmandu while fetching night jasmine for his mother. Once the people realized that their prisoner was no other than Lord Indra, they released him immediately.

Lord Indira’s mother blessed the city for releasing her son and because of the blessing, it is said that Kathmandu receives enough dew even in winters for cultivation.

Gastronomy Tourism is a niche area of heritage tourism and attending cooking classes to learn about and engage in food preparation is a popular form of Gastronomy tourism. Gastronomy tourism is premeditated to be very crucial in that it can make a tourist’s trip a very unique one, helping a destination Sparkle.

It includes the gathering up of complete know-how of the region’s food festival, culture, food, habits restaurant, etc. since in English world Culinary art or Culinary tourism word sophisticated, Gastronomy is more than food which we just appetite, or Physical, biology and chemical change in ingredients, it reflects the culture, heritage, traditions, and sense of community of the different region and people. Gastronomy is all about the relationship between humans, food, and the world we live in.

Food belongs to the distinct identity of each country and it is something that increases your understanding and visits the culture within it.

The festival is organized by The Village Cafe in coordination with the Gastronomy Tourism Association of Nepal and is promoted by Nepal Tourism Board Media Partner with ECS Nepal.

“Since we are in the midst of Indra Jatra, we decided to start this weekly festival with Newari food,” says Gajendra Malla, General Manager of The Village Cafe by Sabah Nepal

The aim of the festival, say organizers, is to promote and celebrate Nepal’s indigenous cuisines.
