Samsung, one of the world’s leading consumer electronics and smartphone brands, today announced it was collaborating with Him Electronics, its long-time partner in Nepal, to start a television factory in Nawalparasi.

  • The new plant is in line with the Nepal Government’s objective of fostering local production capabilities

A function with traditional rituals was held in Nawalparasi on Wednesday to announce the factory’s foundation.

The Hon’ble Minister for Industries, Commerce & Supplies, Shri Dilendra Prasad Badu, and Samsung Electronics Global President & Chief Financial Officer, Mr. HK Park, graced the occasion with their presence.

Also present were Shri Ajay Shahi, Hon’ble Minister for Industries, Commerce & Supplies of Lumbini Province, Mr. Shekhar Golchha, Chairman & MD, Golchha Group, Mr. Ken Kang, Regional President & CEO, Samsung Southwest Asia, Mr. Park Chong-Suk, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Nepal,   Chief District officer of Ramgram municipality Mr. Shrawan Kumar Pokharel along with other local dignitaries.

Speaking at the function, Mr. Ken Kang, Regional President & CEO, Samsung Southwest Asia, said, “The new LED television factory in Nawalparasi with our longstanding partner Him Electronics is a testimony to our continuing commitment to the people of Nepal and the consumers’ ever-growing trust and love for Samsung products.

We also thank the Nepal Government and local authorities for their vision and continued support.”

“This new factory will prove to be a milestone for Nepal. Establishing the factory will help in expanding the economy of the nation and raise the country’s output and skill levels, making it a more competitive nation in the global market. This is the result of our 22-year-long collaboration with Samsung,” said Mr. Shekhar Golchha, Chairman & MD, Golchha Group.

The new manufacturing facility will be a landmark in Nepal’s manufacturing journey and has the potential to transform the electronics space in the country with local enterprise, new skills, innovations, and jobs.

It will help increase efficiency and productivity, creating more employment and developing a stronger electronics manufacturing ecosystem in the country.

Production at the new plant is expected to start in 2023.

 Samsung has been in Nepal since 1997. Today, it is a household name in the country. It currently sells consumer electronics products such as televisions, refrigerators, washing machines, microwaves, and smartphones in the Nepal market through its partner. It has a strong network of 500 electronics retail stores and customer service centers.
