Samsung Strengthens Commitment to Nepal, Signs MoU With Tribhuvan University Institute of Engineering to Provide Future Tech Skills to Youth Under Samsung Innovation Campus CSR Program

Youth will be provided real job skills and in-demand tech skills that will improve their digital literacy, learning abilities, creativity, and employability

Samsung, one of the world’s leading consumer electronics and smartphones brands, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Tribhuvan University Institute of Engineering to train youth in Nepal on future tech skills such as Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Coding & Programming and Internet of Things as part of its global CSR initiative Samsung Innovation Campus (SIC).

The new training initiative will contribute to the development of a strong technology and innovation ecosystem in Nepal.

As part of the Samsung Innovation Campus initiative, youth will be provided real job skills and in-demand tech skills that will improve their digital literacy, learning abilities, creativity, and employability.

The MoU was exchanged by Mr. Ken Kang, SWA Regional President & CEO, Samsung Electronics, and Dr. Shashidhar Ram Joshi, Professor & Dean, Tribhuvan University Institute of Engineering in the presence of Samsung Electronics Global President & Chief Financial Officer, Mr. HK Park.

“We are honored to partner with an institution as distinguished as Tribhuvan University Institute of Engineering. With the Samsung Innovation Campus initiative, we will enhance the technological skills of Nepalese youth in preparation for their entry into the workforce, training them in tech skills that are in high demand among businesses and have vast future potential,” said Mr. Ken Kang, SWA Regional President & CEO, Samsung Electronics.

The courses that are part of the Samsung Innovation Campus initiative – Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Coding & Programming, and Internet of Things – will be taught at the Institute of Engineering. To be selected for the courses, students must have knowledge of algorithms, data structures, and programming.

“At Tribhuvan University Institute of Engineering, we work on the convergence of talent, society, and business, which is why we consider it an exceptional opportunity to sign this MoU with Samsung that gives us access to the Samsung Innovation Campus initiative. This will help us realize our goal of impact on society and people through training and research,” said Dr. Shashidhar Ram Joshi, Professor & Dean, Tribhuvan University Institute of Engineering.

Launched in 2019, Samsung Innovation Campus, which is part of Samsung’s global CSR vision of “Together for Tomorrow! Enabling People”, trains students and unemployed youth to be experienced in key technologies of the 4th Industrial Revolution, such as AI and IoT, nurturing them to be the next generation workforce.

Along with such technological training, the program also offers soft skills training to enhance students’ employability and ability to bring their knowledge to life. It also nurtures problem-solving capabilities that will enable students to become innovative thinkers.

As part of the courses offered under the Samsung Innovation Campus at the Institute of Engineering, students will also undergo a practical project component. In this, students will be challenged to present projects of social significance in which AI, Big Data, Coding & Programming, and IoT play a role.

Samsung believes in using innovation to positively transform communities and create a better life for people through its CSR initiatives. Empowering youth through education is one of the best ways we can prepare our young people to boldly face the world of the future.
