Sarathi, The Rise Of Technology Enabled Taxis In Nepalese Cities

You must have heard about the different taxi service provider like Uber, Lyft and Grab. Like all these names a company named ‘Sarathi’ is the only taxi service provider in Nepal who has been doing immensely a great job in the market.

Background of Sarathi 

Sarathi was established in 2016 and started its operation from 2017. The two friends Ravi Singhal and Prakash Neupane gave birth to Sarathi. Before creating Sarathi, they researched a different aspect related to the taxi service of capital. They studied the business model of the Uber, Ola cabs and among others.

               Some of the advantages of using Sarathi Cabs

  • It always runs in meter
  • Sometimes you can even get a discount
  • You can also pay the money through cards
  • By a single call, you can call a taxi to your place

Sarathi driver gets the monthly salary of Rs.15000. Similarly, they also get the commission acquired from the tips.    Per day, the company receives 400-500 bookings.

The cab service stand-alone hold NRS 12 Billion of transaction every year in Kathmandu only, which come with the calculation of 10000 cabs earn 3000(double shift) every day in average.  Green plate vehicle hold intercity rental business.
Considering the increasing demand for the booking, leasing and carpooling, there is an opportunity for Nepal to position itself as a new industry

It is expected that all operation and marketing activities will involve a systematic change in the way of booking, leasing, service handling and sharing is coordinated. Sarathi operates within multiple stakeholder environments where liaison with different industry actors is essential, compelling yet straightforward operating systems are therefore a necessary aspect of the venture. The implementers will require the broader involvement of the government sector, private sector, association, and individuals.
