Setopati YouTube Channel Hacked

An unknown hacker group took control of the channel on Monday and is now using it to promote illegal cryptocurrency schemes.

Hacker Group Takes Control of the Channel

The attack was discovered when the channel’s content suddenly shifted to cryptocurrency promotions. Setopati informed its audience through a Facebook post, stating that irrelevant content was being broadcast due to the hack. The media outlet assured readers that it was actively working to resolve the issue.

Channel Name and Branding Altered

The hackers have made several changes to the channel. They renamed the channel to “Ripple,” a reference to a popular cryptocurrency, and replaced the logo and cover photo. The description of the channel was also removed. Despite these changes, the original videos on the channel remain unaffected.

Setopati’s Immediate Response to the Hack

In response to the incident, Setopati has assured its followers that it is working hard to regain control of the channel. The company has promised to resolve the issue and restore the channel to its original state as soon as possible.

Ongoing Investigation and Warnings to Viewers

Setopati cautioned its viewers to disregard the cryptocurrency-related content currently being posted. They also urged their audience to remain patient while the situation is being handled. The media company is making every effort to rectify the situation swiftly and return to providing trusted content.

Security Risks and the Need for Vigilance

This incident highlights the growing cybersecurity challenges faced by prominent digital platforms. Setopati’s experience serves as a reminder of the risks that media outlets and online platforms must navigate to protect their content and audience. The hacking of a channel with over 374,000 subscribers has raised concerns about the safety of digital platforms in Nepal.

Setopati’s team continues to work toward restoring normal service, keeping their followers informed as the issue is resolved. The company remains committed to addressing the situation and ensuring that such incidents do not compromise the trust their audience has in them.
