Shangri La Development Bank Limited has published its fourth quarter financial results for fiscal year 2082/83, reporting significant improvements across most key financial indicators compared to the previous fiscal year.
Shangri-La Bank Posts 890M Profit
The national level development bank achieved a net profit of 890 million Nepalese rupees, representing a sharp increase of around 47 percent from the 606.7 million Nepalese rupees earned in fiscal year 2081/82. The profit expansion was primarily driven by a substantial rise in overall operating income across core business sectors.
The strong financial momentum reflects the ability of the bank to expand its market presence and optimize operational revenues despite broader macroeconomic adjustments. The improved bottom line strengthens the capital base of the institution, providing enhanced capacity for future credit expansion and value generation for shareholders.
Core Income Metrics And Profitability Indicators
The financial growth was supported by solid operational revenues generated through core credit and treasury activities throughout the fiscal year under review.
The essential earnings and income growth figures for the bank include the following metrics.
- Net interest income increased by 16.83 percent, rising from 2.07 billion Nepalese rupees to 2.42 billion Nepalese rupees.
- Total operating income grew by 20 percent, reaching 2.95 billion Nepalese rupees compared to 2.46 billion Nepalese rupees in the previous fiscal year.
- Driven by higher earnings, operating profit surged by 53 percent to exceed 1.35 billion Nepalese rupees.
- Distributable profit expanded significantly from 368.3 million Nepalese rupees to 492.3 million Nepalese rupees.
- Earnings per share improved from 17.06 Nepalese rupees to 23.83 Nepalese rupees.
- Net worth per share stood at 169.50 Nepalese rupees at the close of the review period.
These positive income metrics highlight the solid operational efficiency achieved by the institution, providing ample buffers to manage regulatory reserves while maintaining attractive returns on equity.
Balance Sheet Position, Capital Base, And Asset Quality
Shangri La Development Bank Limited continued to expand its deposit mobilization and lending portfolio while adjusting its capital structure to support business expansion.
The detailed capital indicators and balance sheet parameters include the following values.
- Paid up capital increased by 5 percent to reach 3.734 billion Nepalese rupees.
- The bank maintained 492.3 million Nepalese rupees in distributable profit and accumulated 2.103 billion Nepalese rupees in reserve funds.
- Total loans disbursed to customers reached 45.87 billion Nepalese rupees by the end of the fiscal year.
- Total deposits mobilized from retail and corporate clients grew to 56.92 billion Nepalese rupees.
- The base rate of the bank declined significantly from 7.08 percent to 5.57 percent, lowering borrowing costs for credit clients.
However, the non performing loan ratio increased from 5.52 percent to 6.87 percent during the review period.
While the increase in non performing loans reflects continuing recovery pressures within the broader domestic economy, the lower base rate and robust growth in total deposits and credit disbursements position the bank well for ongoing operations in the upcoming fiscal year.
