Standard Chartered Nepal’s Leadership Shift

End of a Long-Standing Tradition

Since its establishment in 1987, Standard Chartered Bank Nepal has always appointed foreign nationals as its CEOs. Rana’s appointment breaks this tradition and sets a new benchmark in Nepal’s banking history.

Transition After Current CEO’s Tenure

Rana will replace Anirvan Ghosh Dastidar, whose term ends in December 2024. The bank’s Board of Directors finalized the decision during a recent meeting.

Rana’s Career in Standard Chartered

Rana has been with Standard Chartered Bank for nearly three decades. He started his journey in 1994 in the Retail and Private Banking department.

1994: Joined the bank in Retail and Private Banking.

1996: Transitioned to Corporate and Institutional Banking.

Career Roles: Served as Relationship Manager, Senior Credit Manager, Head of Client Coverage, and later as Head of Global and Commercial Banking.

January 2022: Promoted to Deputy CEO.

Over the years, Rana has proven his expertise in client relations, credit management, and strategic leadership.

A Milestone for Nepal’s Banking Sector

Standard Chartered Bank Nepal’s decision to trust local leadership is a turning point for the industry. It reflects growing confidence in Nepali professionals for high-level positions.

Bank’s Ownership Structure

The bank has a mix of international and local ownership.

Standard Chartered Grindlays Pty Ltd: 46.81%

Standard Chartered Bank UK: 23.4%

Nepali Public Shareholders: 29.79%

This combination of global and local investment strengthens its position in Nepal’s banking sector.

Rana’s Vision as CEO

As CEO, Rana aims to drive innovation, improve client services, and strengthen the bank’s market position. His extensive experience in banking will help him lead the institution into a new era of growth.

Outgoing CEO’s Contribution

Current CEO Anirvan Ghosh Dastidar will conclude his term by the end of 2024. Under his leadership, the bank achieved significant milestones and maintained its reputation as a leading financial institution.

Looking Ahead

Gorakh Shumsher Rana’s appointment is a major milestone for both Standard Chartered Bank Nepal and the country’s banking industry. His leadership is expected to bring fresh perspectives and reinforce the bank’s commitment to excellence.
