Kavre, Dhulikhel, Banepa and Panauti municipalities of Kavre district are going to be developed as a ‘smart city.’ The ministry of science and technology is set to work as a smart city under its extracurricular effort approach. However, the Computer Association of Nepal (CAN) Kavre has itself initiated to form the smart cities at the local level.

Nabaraj Bhurtel, the chairman of CAN Kavre mentioned that the DPR work would be completed within the running year and the development of a smart city will be initiated from the coming year 2073/74, “We have started working on the file project provided by the ministry,” Bhurtel said, “We’ll be working in the three areas on the first phase, it falls under the sustainable plan, not on any temporary ones!” One day national office conference was done in Dhulikhel for the development of the smart city.

Smart city experts from South Korea, China, Japan, and India participated in the discussion. Experts from a ministry of science and technology, ministry of organizational affairs & local development, CICO International, Team JICA in banepa and the experts from the Kathmandu University had presented in the meeting. Under the smart city plan, different sectors such as factories & industries, cleanliness, drinking water, proper waste management, e-education, e-governance, etc. will be made secure.

The proposal has been passed to the respective municipalities whereas Kathmandu University is playing the role of writing proposals. “Every sector, from the lifestyle to each & everything will become smart after the formation of the smart city,” he said, “We’ve made the discussions, meetings, and interaction with the stakeholders and taken suggestions from them.” Being situated near the capital and even having the infrastructures robust is the reason for developing these three municipalities into smart city according to the ministry.
