Nepal’s newly introduced Taxpayer Reward Incentive Program has witnessed an overwhelming response, recording nearly 1.1 million eligible consumer transactions within the first fifteen days of the fiscal year.
Taxpayer Reward Incentive Program
According to official data released by the Inland Revenue Department, a total of 1,082,622 eligible consumer transactions were registered across the country by 12:00 PM on Monday.
The participating transactions include both digital QR code-based purchases and verified cash purchases supported by consumer-uploaded purchase bills.
QR Payments Lead Campaign Participation
The Inland Revenue Department reported that between Shrawan 1 and Shrawan 15, consumers completed 1,074,796 eligible transactions using QR payment solutions, driving the bulk of initial program engagement.
Following the formal launch of the Taxpayer Incentive Portal, consumers gained the functionality to upload purchase bills for eligible cash transactions.
The addition of cash purchase bill uploads pushed the cumulative total of eligible transactions to 1,082,622 by Monday afternoon.
Substantial Cash Rewards and Bumper Prizes
Under the first phase of the incentive campaign, which evaluates consumer transactions completed between Shrawan 1 and Shrawan 15, the government will distribute high-value cash prizes:
- Fifteen winning consumers will receive cash prizes of Rs 100,000 each
- One lucky grand prize winner will be awarded a bumper reward of Rs 1 million
The Inland Revenue Department has urged consumers who completed cash transactions and received official Value Added Tax bills prior to the prize draw to upload their receipts via the Taxpayer Incentive Portal to secure eligibility.
Program Announcement and Policy Framework
The Taxpayer Reward Incentive Program was officially introduced in the national budget for the current fiscal year by Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle to promote tax compliance and ensure the issuance of genuine purchase bills at consumer retail touchpoints.
Under the regulatory guidelines, any consumer purchasing goods or services valued at Rs 100 or higher is eligible to participate in the reward draw, provided the transaction is completed via qualifying digital payment methods or official bill registration.
Strengthening Digital Payments and Tax Transparency
The government initiative aims to enhance formal tax transparency, accelerate consumer adoption of digital payment systems, and establish a culture of requesting official VAT purchase receipts.
By directly rewarding tax-compliant consumers, the state aims to broaden the tax base, curb revenue leakage, and improve overall national revenue collection.
