Spyroa Wins Hult

1st March 2023, Kathmandu

The Hult Prize is an annual global competition that challenges students to create innovative solutions to critical issues.

This year’s theme, “Redesigning Fashion,” was particularly relevant given the fashion industry’s negative impact on the environment. The Hult Prize aims to encourage social entrepreneurship and support solutions to global issues.

In 2023, the competition was hosted by Deerwalk College (DWIT) for the first time. The Hult Prize On Campus Final was held on February 26, 2023.

Six teams participated in the finals: Hult GPT, Lace UP, LUGA, Spyroa, Hult Hustlers, and Vastra. Each team had ten minutes to pitch their ideas, followed by an unrestricted Q&A session. The pitches were judged by three judges: Ishani Shrestha, Ujjwal Koirala, and Sunita Shrestha.

Following the first three teams’ presentations, the emcees held a fun quiz in which the audience had to guess the brand based on the logo displayed on the screen. Following the quiz, a 5-minute break was granted. After the break, the remaining three teams presented their proposals.

After all the pitches were completed at 2 p.m., Prayatna Mishra, the Campus Director, was requested to speak a few words about the entire occasion. Following the Campus Director’s speech, the judges shared their perspectives and encouraged the participants.

At 3:15 p.m., Team Spyroa led by Prasansha Bharati and team members Yokibha Chapagain, Rojen Maharjan, Sarbagya Sapkota, and Adhyashree Poudel was declared the winner, with Team Vastra and Team Luga finishing as the first and second runners-up, respectively.

Certificates were given to all participants, and prizes were given to the winning teams. After the winners were declared, the event concluded at 4 p.m. with the winners cutting the cake to celebrate their triumph. The winning team will go through the general application round to compete for the 1M USD.

Overall, the Hult Prize On Campus Final was a great success, bringing together students to address critical issues.

The competition provided a platform for students to showcase their innovative ideas and solutions, and we look forward to seeing more solutions to global issues in the future.
