The Metropolitan Traffic Police has launched a Traffic Surveillance Vehicle operation. Today, to monitor and take action against the vehicles violating the traffic rules in the absence of traffic police.

The branch will be mobilized to manage the traffic congestion on the busy roads of the valley. Also to control the speeds on the wide roads.

Chief of the Division, Janak Bhattarai, said that a CCTV camera was installed on the roof of a micro bus-shaped surveillance van. And it could catch the scene up to 200 meters away.

He also said that the van would monitor the areas where there is a traffic jam. During peak hours and areas where traffic rules are being violated to a large extent will be monitored.

The five traffic policemen deployed in the van have installed technology to regulate daily traffic and capture video and road activities.

It is expected to provide significant assistance in traffic management. And it helps the general drivers to take action with evidence and raise more awareness, the department said.

Meanwhile, SSP Bhattarai had rewarded and honored 18 traffic police officers who returned bribes without any financial temptation.

Spokesperson SP Shyam Krishna Adhikari said that the drivers who tried to seduce the traffic police. By bribing them while taking action against the drivers and violating the traffic rules have been arrested.

Among the awardees are Prasani Debiram Bhandari, Prasani Rameshwar Upreti, Shankar Van Sanyasi, Binod Gotame, Praj Bhuvan Bhandari, Kedar Prasad Bhandari, Nain Singh Rana,  Ravin Ghimire,  Nanjay Singh Rawat, Mina Kumari Acharya,  Niraj Thapa,  Keshab Bisht, Ramesh Singh Budal, Bhanubhakta Dhakal, Rakesh Kumar Sah, Shanta Shrestha, Ishwar Pachai and Sandeep Kumar Yadav.

According to the department, 69 drivers who tried to bribe traffic police during the recent traffic operation have been arrested.

Also, 53 traffic policemen have rewarded and honored by the department.
