Chaudhary, working at Trijuga Distillery, was arrested for one year and fined Rs 10,000
The District Court of Saptari sentenced one accused of polygamy to one year in prison and a fine of Rs 10,000. District Judge Prem Prasad Neupane handed down a sentence on Monday to Binod Kumar Chaudhary, 34, of Bhadaiya, Lahan Municipality-18, Siraha, said Hem Bahadur Budhathoki, Information Officer of the Court.
Chaudhary’s wife Gayadevi Chaudhary lodged a complaint with the Kadarbona Area Police Office on 14 Bhadra 2075 alleging that her husband Binod had committed polygamy with 28-year-old Phul Kumari Chaudhary of Surunga Municipality-5.
The accused are working at the Trijuga Distillery in the Surunga Municipality-6. Binod was arrested by the Area Police Office, Kadarbona Saptari, on 3 September 2075, after the victim lodged a complaint alleging that the accused had committed polygamy at Phul Kumari’s home. Accused Binod was released on bail of Rs. 50,000 on Bhadra 15, 2075 by order of the Saptari District Court.
So far, another accused, Phul Kumari, has not been arrested. Information officer Buddhathoki informed that the case had been adjourned in his case. According to social custom, the victim was married in 2065 BS and had a 10-year-old daughter.
