Youth IGF (yIGF) Nepal Fellowship 2023 is open for applications. The fellowship provides a scholarship to attend the annual multi-stakeholder open forum on 29 May 2023.
The fellowship will select 14 participants from 7 provinces (2 from each province).
Youth IGF Nepal is a national initiative of the youth of Nepal that aims to promote awareness and understanding of Internet governance issues among youth.
The initiative is part of the broader Youth Internet Governance Forum (Youth IGF) movement, which aims to provide a platform for youth to engage in discussions and decisions related to Internet governance.
A conversation with Udeep Baral and Bibek Silwal, Founder Members of Youth IGF regarding this program:
Q: Can you tell us a little about Youth IGF Nepal and its purpose?
Youth IGF Nepal is a national initiative that aims to promote awareness and understanding of Internet governance issues among the youth of Nepal. Our aim is to provide a platform for young people to engage in discussions and decision-making on internet governance. We believe that young people have a unique perspective on these issues and should have a say in how the Internet is governed.
Q: How did you come up with the idea of Youth IGF Nepal?
The idea for Youth IGF Nepal came about when a group of young people in Nepal realized that there was a lack of representation of youth in discussions about Internet governance. We saw that many important decisions were made without the input of young people, who are some of the heaviest users of the Internet. So, we decided to create a platform where young people can come together to discuss and contribute to these discussions.
Q: What is the Youth IGF Nepal 2023 Fellowship?
The Youth IGF Nepal 2023 Fellowship is a unique opportunity for youth leaders from all seven provinces of Nepal to participate in the Youth IGF Nepal event on May 29, 2023 in Kathmandu. The fellowship provides an opportunity for young people to represent their province. And contributes to an important discussion about the future of the Internet in Nepal.
Q: What impact do you hope Youth IGF Nepal will have?
We hope that Youth IGF Nepal will have a significant impact on Internet governance decision-making in Nepal. By providing a forum for youth to discuss and make decisions related to Internet governance, we hope to create a more inclusive and representative process. Ultimately, we believe this will lead to better decisions that reflect the needs and perspectives of all Nepalese citizens.
Q: What advice do you have for young people interested in Internet governance?
Our advice would be to get involved in Youth IGF Nepal! There are many opportunities to engage in Internet governance discussions and decision-making, and it is important that young people are a part of these conversations.
We encourage youth to seek out organizations and initiatives like Youth IGF Nepal that are working to promote awareness and understanding of Internet governance issues. And, of course, we encourage young people to apply for the Youth IGF Nepal 2023 Fellowship and become a part of the movement!
