The UE Boom 2 is the upgraded Bluetooth Speaker product of the Ultimate Ear’s UE Boom 2013. It is a waterproof Bluetooth speaker that captured the market with its maximum volume and higher battery life. However, it has slightly less audio quality. The main motto of the Boom box is to remove the defects of the original Boom with the help of improved hardware and software. Finally, it became able to remove these flaws and earn the spot at the best Bluetooth Speakers 2015.
The overall design of the Boom 2 is as same as that of its previous versions. It has the dimensions of 67 x 180 mm and weighs about 550 grams. It features a 360 speaker that is divided by a rubber strip that runs along the long side and top as well as bottom faces. The band manages the physical volume and the power controls of the speaker. The colors that this speaker is available are green, blue and yellow.
The speaker has been manufactured according to IPX7 certification standards which means that this speaker is waterproof up to 1 meter up to half an hour. The sound quality was the main problem in the original Boom.
Increasing the 2013 UE Boom’s volume past 75% resulted in the struggle of speaker’s two 1.5in drivers and twin 2in passive radiators. As the capacity was increased, the speaker started to distort. This issue is resolved in the Boom 2 model by upgrading into 1.75in active drivers and 3in passive radiators.
The speaker does not distort when the volume is past 75% but when the volume is increased past 90% both noise and distortion began to creep on. The UE Boom 2 uses a non-removable Li-ion battery that has the battery life of 15 hour if the speaker is playing music constantly at low volume and if the speaker is played in high volume, the speaker would have the battery life of 8 to 11 hours. This speaker can be controlled via several iOS and Android applications. This device only costs about 170 pounds.
