Jyoti Bikas Bank is making a tangible contribution to public health in Nepal’s underserved areas.

Recognizing the critical importance of life-saving medical equipment in rural settings, the bank recently donated Baby Warmers to health posts across the Sudurpashchim (Far-West) Province. This initiative is a major step toward expanding HealthTech Access in Nepal’s remote districts.
The Baby Warmer machine is vital for regulating a newborn’s body temperature and preventing hypothermia (low body temperature), a leading cause of neonatal mortality.
By providing these devices, the bank is actively using its resources to bridge the digital and health divide, ensuring safer maternity services reach even the most distant communities where the bank does not currently operate branches.
Strategic Placement for Maximum Impact
The bank strategically chose remote health posts lacking reliable medical infrastructure to maximize the benefit of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds. The Baby Warmers were installed in health posts across four districts:
-
Baitadi District: Masta Health Post (Masta Rural Municipality-02) and Kalukheti Health Post (Khaptadchanna Rural Municipality-05).
-
Bajura District: Purbhuta Basic Health Service Center (Triveni Municipality-03).
-
Achham District: Bhatakatiya Health Post (Ramaroshan Rural Municipality-06).
This geographical spread ensures that the technology benefits a large population in difficult-to-reach areas. This move aligns with global best practices for digital inclusion, recognizing that physical health is the foundation of digital readiness.
The Digital Component: Training and Telemedicine Potential
The successful deployment of this medical hardware relies heavily on a soft infrastructure component: digital skills training.
During the handover ceremony, expert trainers provided specialized instruction to the health post doctors, nurses, and staff on the correct operation and maintenance of the Baby Warmers.
This training utilizes modern pedagogical techniques and digital resources to ensure consistent, safe use. It is a vital process that facilitates the adoption of HealthTech Access tools.
Furthermore, the installation of modern equipment lays the groundwork for future telemedicine initiatives.
Remote Monitoring: Once internet connectivity improves, these devices could potentially be linked to central hospitals, allowing specialists to remotely monitor the device logs and newborn vital signs.
Digital Data Capture: The trained staff can use mobile devices to digitally record and transmit patient data, improving reporting accuracy and allowing for better national health strategy planning.
A Leader in Corporate Social Responsibility
Jyoti Bikas Bank has established itself as a leader in socially responsible banking. The bank has successfully installed 62 Baby Warmer units across various hospitals, health posts, and birthing centers nationwide through its previous CSR phases.
This continuous contribution is projected to save the lives of over 2,294 Nepali infants annually, with over 11,470 infants having already directly benefited from this service.
The bank consciously allocates 50 percent more of its net profit toward social contribution than other comparable bank and financial institutions in Nepal. This elevated commitment demonstrates that strong digital governance and financial profitability can directly fund life-saving social initiatives.
The bank’s commitment to stakeholders—including customers, employees, regulators, and shareholders—is upheld through its dedication to corporate governance and national duty.
Contributing approximately Rs 41 crore in taxes last fiscal year, while expanding its service network to 118 branch offices, 3 extended counters, and 75 ATMs, shows that operational efficiency and social responsibility are mutually reinforcing goals.
The bank’s ongoing initiative sets a high standard for how the financial sector can actively contribute to HealthTech Access and national human resource development.
