Prime Minister Sushila Karki has firmly declared that the government’s aggressive anti-corruption drive will proceed simultaneously with ongoing election preparations.
Anti-Corruption Drive Nepal
Meeting with the Pragatisheel Loktantrik Party, she underscored that the current crackdown embodies the spirit of the youth-led Gen Z Movement and that governance reforms will not be paused for any reason.
This unwavering stance reaffirms a strong commitment to cleaning up Nepal Politics.
No Political Interference in Key Bodies
PM Karki stressed the sufficiency and capability of existing anti-graft bodies. She explicitly named the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), the Department of Money Laundering Investigation (DMLI), and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
“These bodies will operate with complete independence and will not face political interference,” PM Karki stated, ensuring that the necessary institutional mechanisms are already in place to combat corruption effectively.
The message is clear: the focus is on enabling these institutions to function at their maximum potential, ensuring accountability across the board.
Rising Tide of Major Corruption Cases
The Prime Minister highlighted a noticeable increase in investigations targeting major corruption cases. She sharply criticized the detrimental effects of deep political meddling in critical sectors, particularly agriculture.
Farmer Suffering: Karki pointed out that while political leaders are benefiting from illicit activities, the nation’s farmers are being made to suffer the most.
Political Exploitation: This exploitation in a vital sector like agriculture has become a key target for the government’s intensified scrutiny.
The government is determined to root out the vested interests that have long undermined the economy and public trust.
Demands from the Pragatisheel Loktantrik Party
The delegation from the Pragatisheel Loktantrik Party presented several urgent demands and concerns reflecting the national sentiment:
Swift Action on Gen Z Issues: They called for the immediate resolution of issues championed by the Gen Z Movement, advocating for reforms that resonate with the younger generation.
Concern over Law Enforcement: They raised significant concerns regarding questionable police arrests and the pervasive influence of political goons.
Warning Against Polarisation: The delegation cautioned the government about the dangers of growing political polarisation in the country, urging for a more unifying approach to governance.
Empowering Youth for Institutional Change
In response, PM Karki called for a strategic move to empower the youth within the parliamentary system. She argued that increasing the participation of young leaders in the legislative process is essential for institutionalizing the desired change and cementing the reforms initiated by the government.
“Empowering our youth in parliament is the best way to ensure that these reforms become permanent fixtures of our democracy,” she urged.
This approach seeks to convert the street-level energy of the Gen Z Movement into sustainable, legislative action, guaranteeing a future free from systemic corruption.
PM Karki: Reforms Unstoppable
The Prime Minister’s steadfast commitment sends a powerful signal that the drive for governance reforms is irreversible.
Despite the distraction of upcoming elections, the priority remains fixed on the anti-corruption drive, proving that the government is responsive to the public’s demand for a cleaner political landscape, a demand largely driven by the Gen Z Movement.
The crackdown is continuing, proving that no excuses will be accepted for halting the national progress toward a more transparent and accountable system in Nepal Politics.
