Instant Access: Revolutionizing Nepal’s Smart License Tracking For Real-Time Status Updates
6th May 2026, Kathmandu
A 20-year-old student developer, Sushant Giri, has transformed how Nepalese citizens access government data by launching an innovative, Python-based web tool to track Smart Driving License print status.
Nepal’s Smart License Tracking
Breaking the PDF Barrier
For years, license applicants in Nepal had to navigate cumbersome, long PDF lists or visit Department of Transport Management (DoTM) offices to verify if their cards were ready. Giri’s new tool, built entirely from scratch and deployed via Render, allows users to simply enter their license number for an instant status update.
“It’s a License Print Status Check system where you can simply enter your license number and instantly see your print status without going through long PDF lists,” says Sushant Giri. “Right now, the platform also shows which office records are available, and I’ll be adding more offices soon”.
Key Features of the License Tracker
Instant Access: Eliminates the need for manual PDF searches or dedicated mobile apps.
Offline Potential: The tool is designed to assist users even in environments with limited internet connectivity.
Enhanced Convenience: Allows citizens to check their status from home, reducing physical crowds at transportation offices.
Python-Powered Innovation: The project marks Giri’s first major deployment, showcasing the talent of Nepalese youth in solving administrative bottlenecks through code.
Digital Governance Context
This grassroots initiative aligns with the Nepal Government’s broader push toward digital transparency. While the Nagarik App provides similar services, it is currently limited to Android users. Giri’s web-based platform offers a more inclusive alternative during its beta phase.
The new Smart Licenses themselves are a marvel of modern security, featuring 39 distinct security features to prevent forgery and ensure data integrity.
Future Outlook
Currently in its beta version, the developer is actively seeking feedback to expand the database to include more regional transport offices across Nepal.
This development represents a significant step forward in improving transparency and convenience for millions of license seekers nationwide.
