MoCIT Release 36 Officials From 9 Agencies Following New Government Ordinance

In a major administrative overhaul, 36 high-ranking officials serving across nine different agencies under the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology have been relieved of their duties.

The mass removal follows the implementation of the Special Provision for Removal of Public Officials Ordinance, 2026.
According to a press release issued by the Ministry today, the officials including chairs, board members, and executive heads were automatically removed under Sub-section (1) of Section (20) of the new Ordinance.
Key Agencies and Officials Affected
The sweep impacted several prominent state-owned media houses, regulatory bodies, and commissions. Below are the key figures who have been unseated:
Media and Regulatory Bodies
Gorkhapatra Corporation: Chairman Govinda Prasad Bhandari.
Press Council Nepal: Chairman Dr. Kumar Sharma Acharya, along with eight board members including Padam Raj Joshi, Bhimlal Shrestha, and Shantam Bidari.
Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA): Chairman Bhupendra Bhandari and four members, including Krishna Prasad Pokhrel and Navaraj Adhikari.
Advertising Board: Chairman Laxman Humagain and three other members.
Commissions and Committees
National Information Commission: Chief Information Commissioner Dr. Suresh Prasad Acharya and Information Commissioners Durga Bhandari Paudel and Gagan Bishta.
Public Service Broadcasting Nepal: Chairman Dr. Mahendra Bista and three board members.
Minimum Wage Fixation Committee: Chairperson Sangeeta Khadka and three members.
Film Censorship Board: Three members, including Sampanna Shrestha and Kuber Raj Giri.
Security Printing Center: Executive Director Debraj Dhungana and board member Aditya Neupane.
Context of the Decision
This sweeping change comes as the government moves to restructure leadership within various institutes, boards, and authorities under the Ministry’s jurisdiction.
The Ministry clarified that this action is a direct result of the legal enforcement of the 2026 Ordinance aimed at managing public appointments.
The sudden vacancy of these leadership roles is expected to lead to a new wave of political appointments as the government seeks to align these institutions with current policy goals.
