Citizens Bank Limited Reaffirms Long Term Commitment To Sustainable Development Through Expanded CSR Initiatives
29th July 2026, Kathmandu
Citizens Bank Limited has reaffirmed its long standing commitment to sustainable community welfare and inclusive growth by significantly expanding its corporate social responsibility initiatives across Nepal.
Citizens Bank CSR Initiatives
Marking nearly nineteen years of delivering modern, reliable, and accessible banking services, the commercial bank emphasized that corporate social responsibility is fully integrated into its core corporate strategy rather than viewed as a secondary philanthropic effort.
Through a well structured approach, the bank has successfully conducted numerous social programs during the recent fiscal year, positively impacting millions of individuals across rural, semi urban, and urban communities nationwide. The initiatives encompass a broad spectrum of critical social development sectors including financial literacy, healthcare support, environmental conservation, educational empowerment, and disaster resilience.
Nationwide Financial Literacy Campaign Across All Seven Provinces
As a major pillar of its financial inclusion strategy, Citizens Bank organized comprehensive financial literacy sessions through its extensive network of one hundred and forty eight branches spread across all seven provinces of Nepal. The primary objective of the campaign was to bridge the financial knowledge gap among marginalized communities and empower individuals with essential financial management skills.
The interactive literacy sessions educated approximately ten thousand participants representing diverse socio economic backgrounds. Key beneficiary groups included school and college students, female entrepreneurs, local farmers, daily wage laborers, and aspiring foreign migrant workers. The curriculum covered fundamental concepts such as responsible spending, systematic savings habits, digital banking security, cyber fraud prevention, proper credit utilization, and the safe adoption of modern electronic banking platforms.
Transformative Healthcare Interventions In Rural Municipalities
Recognizing that access to quality medical services remains a persistent challenge in remote parts of Nepal, Citizens Bank extended targeted healthcare support to underserved rural communities. In Bishrampur Rural Municipality of Bara District, the bank organized a comprehensive health camp focusing on eye care. The free medical camp provided specialized eye examinations to approximately eight hundred local residents.
During the diagnostic screenings, medical professionals identified nearly one hundred and fifty patients suffering from cataracts. To ensure complete medical care, Citizens Bank sponsored free cataract surgical treatments for all identified patients, restoring their vision and improving their overall quality of life.
In addition to direct medical camps, the financial institution extended vital material support to Bhagwati Health Post located in Myagdi District. The bank donated essential medical infrastructure including specialized hospital beds, a dedicated infant baby warmer, a mobile medicine trolley, and high density polyethylene pipes to secure a reliable supply of clean drinking water for the facility. This support directly enhanced healthcare delivery for over four thousand three hundred local residents residing in Wards One and Two of the municipality.
Environmental Protection Through The One Account One Tree Campaign
Demonstrating a firm dedication to environmental sustainability and climate action, Citizens Bank continued its flagship One Account One Tree environmental initiative. On the occasion of World Environment Day, the bank conducted a major tree plantation drive at Chaukidanda Tourism Park in Budhanilkantha, Kathmandu, where employees and local volunteers planted approximately two hundred and fifty saplings.
The environmental conservation campaign was systematically expanded across Koshi, Madhesh, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces. Through these coordinated regional plantation drives, the bank successfully planted more than one thousand five hundred trees nationwide. This continuous green initiative aims to promote biodiversity, combat urban deforestation, and foster environmental responsibility among local communities.
Enhancing Educational Access And Inclusive Infrastructure In Remote Regions
Citizens Bank also directed substantial resources toward strengthening public education in geographically isolated regions of the country. In Adanchuli Rural Municipality of Humla District, the bank distributed complete tracksuit sets to two hundred and five students attending Shree Chhatrapal Basic School. The distribution helped create a more comfortable learning environment for children attending school in harsh mountain weather conditions.
Furthermore, the bank demonstrated a deep commitment to inclusive education by providing specialized learning tools for visually impaired students. Citizens Bank distributed high quality Braille paper, electronic grade Braille styluses, Interpoint Braille slates, ergonomic school bags, and specialized educational software packages. These assistive technologies have made formal education far more accessible and inclusive for students with visual disabilities, enabling them to pursue academic development alongside their peers.
Building Long Term Community Partnerships and Sustainable Impact
Over the course of its institutional journey, Citizens Bank has executed more than one hundred corporate social responsibility projects across Nepal. These initiatives have created a direct and lasting positive impact on millions of citizens while deepening the trust and bond between the bank and local communities.
The management of Citizens Bank reiterated that social welfare, environmental stewardship, inclusive education, and rural healthcare enhancement will remain foundational pillars of its institutional culture. Looking ahead, the bank remains committed to investing a significant portion of its corporate resources into community development programs, ensuring that commercial success goes hand in hand with sustainable economic development and social prosperity throughout Nepal.
