SEBON Hosts Orientation On Financial Review Standards For IPOs

The Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) organized an orientation and interaction program on the “Financial Review Standards for Initial Public Offerings (IPOs), 2082”.

The event was held at SEBON’s Lalitpur office on Shrawan 14 and brought together approximately 65 participants.
Attendees included the board’s chairman, senior SEBON officials, and chief executive officers alongside senior executives from various merchant banking institutions.
The newly introduced financial review standards officially came into effect on Baisakh 1, 2083.
Reform Initiatives And Primary Market White Paper
Addressing the participants, SEBON Chairman Dr. Gopal Prasad Bhatta emphasized ongoing regulatory reforms aimed at creating an organized, transparent, reliable, and investor-friendly primary capital market.
Dr. Bhatta announced that SEBON is currently preparing to publish a Primary Market White Paper to introduce systemic reforms to the IPO process.
The white paper will focus on key capital market priorities:
- Procedural Streamlining: Simplifying public offering procedures for issuing companies and issue managers.
- Investor Protection: Safeguarding retail and institutional investor interests through enhanced verification.
- Corporate Governance: Promoting transparency, financial integrity, and accountability among issuing entities.
- Market Confidence: Building broader public trust in Nepal’s primary securities market framework.
Technical Presentation And Financial Reporting Standards
During the session, SEBON Board Member and President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nepal (ICAN), Anand Raj Sharma Wagle, delivered a technical presentation.
The presentation detailed the objectives, implementation framework, and practical application of the new financial review standards.
- Framework Credibility: The standards establish an official mechanism to review the accuracy, transparency, and governance of financial statements submitted by IPO applicants.
- Issuer Accountability: Companies seeking public listing must meet standardized financial reporting benchmarks before launching public issues.
