Nepal Rastra Bank Invites Global Bids to Mint 300 Million Two-Rupee Coins

Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has officially published an international tender notice calling for the design, minting, supply, and delivery of 300 million units (30 crore pieces) of NPR 2 denomination circulation coins.

The Currency Management Department of the central bank issued the notification to pre-qualified security minting companies to replenish and stabilize the supply of small-denomination physical currency across Nepal.
Key Procurement Timeline and Schedule
International bidding security mints must strictly observe the operational timeline established by the central bank:
- Notice Publication Date: October 5, 2026 (Ashoj 19, 2083 BS)
- Pre-Bid Meeting: October 16, 2026 (Ashoj 30, 2083 BS) at 12:00 PM at the Currency Management Department, Thapathali, Kathmandu
- Document Purchase Deadline: November 3, 2026 (Kartik 17, 2083 BS)
- Bid Submission Deadline: November 4, 2026 (Kartik 18, 2083 BS) by 12:00 PM
- Bid Opening Session: November 4, 2026 (Kartik 18, 2083 BS) at 1:00 PM in the presence of attending bidder representatives
Bidding Eligibility and Tender Document Collection
Pre-qualified minting companies can purchase official bidding documents from either the Currency Management Department in Thapathali, Kathmandu, or the Mint Division in Babarmahal, Kathmandu.
- Tender Document Fee: Non-refundable NPR 20,000, USD 131, or EUR 115
- Submission Envelope Protocol: Bidders must submit technical and financial proposals in separate, sealed envelopes
Required Bid Security (Guarantee Bond)
Bidders are required to furnish a substantial performance/bid guarantee alongside their sealed proposals:
- Minimum Bid Security Amount: USD 132,000 (or an equivalent value in Nepalese Rupees or other convertible foreign currency)
- Validity Period of Guarantee Bond: 150 days from the date of submission, remaining valid through April 3, 2027 (Chaitra 20, 2083 BS)
Operational Purpose
The initiative forms part of Nepal Rastra Bank’s regular currency management strategy. Minting 300 million units of NPR 2 coins ensures adequate reserves of small-change physical cash in circulation across commercial banks, financial institutions, and daily retail transactions nationwide.
