A great Debut By Chinese Brand In India.

We saw several Chinese brands make their way to India to lunch several smartphones for money that in premium hardware, unlike Xiaomi and Meizu. UMI is a relatively unknown brand in Mainland China but is all set to mark its debut in India with the quite popular UMI Zero.

UMI Zero packs in the top of the line specification in a sleek form factor. The zero allows being rooted out of the box to different Android ROMs and should appeal to a lot of Android enthusiasts.

The UMI Zero claims to be slimmest dual sim Android smartphones and the glass are metallic body makes for a well-designed phone. The company claims that the Zero features Almunium-Magnesium alloy metal frame with Gorilla Glass panels at the front and back. At 6.4mm and weighing 145 gms it feels great in the hand although its a little taller for comfortable one-hand usage and the glass makes it a little slippery.

The volume of rocks and power keys are placed along the left edges. It’s odd but enables better access to the power button. The SIM Card tray has two slots including one hybrid slot. You can also use as the Micro SD cards.UMI Zero features is 5inch full HD(1920×1080) Super AMOLED display with corning Gorilla Glass protection.

The display looks vivid colors and gorgeous and mind you viewing angles and pretty good too. It is powered by a 2GHz MediaTek MT6592turbo octa-core processor with 2 GB of RAM coupled with a Mali-450 MP4 GPO. There is a 16GB of internal storage with an optional Micro SD card slot of expansion.

While running multiple apps in the background or playing graphics-intensive games, and the Videos doesn’t hit the performance it tends to get pretty warms in the process.

The phone packs in 2780 mAh battery that allows the phone to smoothly sail through a day on regular usage. There is also a power saving and ultra power saving modes that limit background tasks and apps and turn off connecting features to save battery. The UMI Zero allows you to charge the phone’s battery to half its capacity in 15 minutes.

The UMI Zero comes with Android version 4.4 KitKat with a few additional features. The phone does not support over the air software updates. It allows you to download quickly and Flash ROMs even third party over using their FootJoy pc tools, an application that offers one-click installation of android Roms.

Since a phone not officially launched in Nepal/India. The Android Version available out of the box might changes although one can easily use the FootJoy tool to download and flash stock ROM.

The UMI Zero supports 13Mp cameras with dual LED flows and an 8 MP front-facing camera. The phone supports 1080 videos captured through both cameras.
