Baraha Agro Foods has formally launched Baraha Moringa, a 100 percent natural superfood derived from the drumstick tree.

The product was officially unveiled during a ceremony held in Kathmandu on Saturday by former minister and women economic empowerment advocate Bhagbati Chaudhary. Addressing the gathering, she underscored the importance of pure, natural foods in sustaining public health and preventing lifestyle-related diseases.
Nutritional Properties And Health Benefits
Chaudhary stated that Baraha Moringa is cultivated and processed in Barahakshetra Ward 1 of Sunsari district. The crop is widely recognized as a dense source of vital vitamins, essential minerals, and plant-based protein that support human immune function.
According to her presentation, regular consumption of moringa aids in cellular detoxification and provides key nutrients that help manage chronic health conditions, including diabetes and hypertension. She added that both the leaves and pods of the drumstick tree carry high nutritional value, making moringa a high-potential agricultural crop for commercial farming in Nepal.
Fostering Women Entrepreneurship And Local Livelihoods
Baraha Moringa is produced through the active involvement of local Indigenous and Janajati women farmers under the technical guidance of the Grameen Mahila Utsukta Bikas Manch. The initiative focuses on transitioning traditional rural agriculture into commercial enterprise, generating self-employment opportunities for rural women and youth.

Project leaders noted that the overall objective involves building a nationwide supply network for the Baraha Moringa brand while boosting local household incomes through value-added agricultural processing.
Support From International Development Agencies
The commercialization initiative receives technical and financial backing from major international development partners, including the United Nations Development Programme, the DZI Foundation, and Lutheran World Relief. The multi-stakeholder collaboration is designed to scale local production, establish quality control benchmarks, and build sustainable rural value chains.

The launch event was attended by policymakers, agricultural experts, and development professionals, including former Social Welfare Council Member Secretary Dilli Bhatt, Rajshree University Controller of Examinations Dr Shyam Kishore Mahato, Forward Microfinance Chief Executive Officer Krishna Prasad Bhattarai, and Kisan Net President Surya Bhusal.
Panelists discussed the commercial and nutritional prospects of moringa, noting that expanded cultivation can serve as a catalyst for women empowerment and sustainable economic development. Regular consumers attending the event shared personal testimonials regarding the health benefits of the product while advising the management to invest in modern packaging and explore export markets.
Drabya Raj Chaudhary, Chief Executive Director of Forward Nepal, reaffirmed the company commitment to maintaining strict purity standards during processing. He emphasized that the organization will continue to expand its production capacity, refine product branding, and widen its distribution footprint across domestic and international markets.
