Buddha Air Increases Bharatpur Kathmandu Flights Following Prithvi Highway Disruption

Buddha Air has expanded its daily flight schedule on the Bharatpur Kathmandu route to accommodate a sharp surge in passenger demand following severe road collapses and disruptions along the Prithvi Highway, specifically around the Krishnabhir section.

Flight Operations and Capacity Expansion

Daily Flight Frequency: Normal operations of five daily flights have been increased to between 9 and 11 daily flights to ensure continuous air connectivity for travelers stranded by highway blockages.

Operational Constraints: Flights are operated using ATR 72 aircraft. Due to the shorter runway length at Bharatpur Airport, passenger capacity is capped at approximately 50 passengers for departures from Bharatpur and 65 to 70 passengers for arrivals from Kathmandu.

Regional Connectivity: Bharatpur Airport serves as a vital air transit hub for travelers across Chitwan, Nawalparasi, Gorkha, Tanahun, Lamjung, and Makwanpur districts.

Alternative Transport Dynamics

Monsoon Road Conditions: Although an alternative land route exists via Makwanpur, ongoing monsoon conditions and landslips have prompted a significant shift toward air transport for safe and reliable travel.
