In preparation for the Government of Nepal’s policies and programs for the fiscal year 2081-82, the Federation of Computer Association Nepal (#CANFederation) has put forth recommendations aimed at elevating the importance of the information technology (CAN Federation Enhanced IT Sector) sector.

Highlighting Nepal’s achievement of software exports worth 67.8 billion in the last fiscal year, the CAN Federation emphasized the need to recognize the IT industry’s contribution to the country’s revenue through software and services sales.

CAN Federation urges for increased government support to the IT sector, foreseeing greater income generation potential with enhanced facilities?

Additionally, the CAN Federation calls for initiatives from Nepali software producers to promote self-reliance and proposes the establishment of finishing schools in each province. These schools would facilitate tailored IT manpower development, aligning with industry needs.

To address the expiring licenses of the Government Data Center (GIDC), the CAN Federation recommends developing robust operational guidelines.

Further suggestions include the establishment of a National ICT Council, emphasis on cybersecurity, promotion of e-governance, provision of scholarships for IT students, and streamlining customs procedures for IT-related imports.

CAN Federation’s General Secretary, Chiranjibi Adhikari, emphasizes the importance of integrating these plans into government policies to tackle challenges in the IT sector.

Echoing this sentiment, Federation President Ranjit Kumar Poddar advocates for collaborative efforts between the government and the private sector to position Nepal as an IT hub.

Acknowledging the significance of CAN Federation’s suggestions, Joint Secretary Kiran Rupakheti from the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet assures support in incorporating these recommendations into the government’s policies and programs.

By aligning government initiatives with the CAN Federation’s proposals, Nepal aims to foster a conducive environment for IT sector growth and innovation.
