Today, the U.S. Embassy in collaboration with the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham Nepal) organized a one-day workshop with business and government leaders to promote sustainable economic development in Nepal.

The topics discussed focused on Nepal’s business environment and investment policy initiatives. Those in attendance included entrepreneurs, executives, business association representatives, development agencies, think tanks, and government officials – all key stakeholders in promoting sustainable economic development in Nepal.

The event was also an opportunity for the U.S. Embassy to demonstrate support for increased U.S. business investment and engagement in Nepal.

Chargéd ‘Affaires Manny P. Micaller Jr., Governor of the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Maha Prasad Adhikari, and Secretary of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Supplies Arjun Pokharel, provided opening remarks.

“In Nepal, as in many other countries, the private sector is the key change agent in economic development – creating jobs and contributing the most to national income.” said Chargé d’Affaires Manny P. Micaller Jr. “Beyond that, the private sector leads by example, demonstrating values such as responsibility and inclusion, and making a positive impact that lifts all communities in Nepal,”

The event also highlighted the new and rapidly growing American Chamber of Commerce in Nepal (AmCham Nepal), which is working to support the U.S.-Nepal trade and investment relationship.

AmCham Nepal’s president Ajit B Shah at the private sector panel together with the leaders of FNCCI, CNI, and NUSACCI shared about the necessity of Amcham Nepal and how it is working on mitigating policy challenges for existing American businesses currently operating in Nepal.

He furthermore added that there is a huge opportunity to deliver IT Services to the rest of the world from Nepal and that there is a need to have an organization like NASSCOM to accelerate this industry.
