Hult at IOE, Pulchowk Campus conducted their third mentorship session on “Creating Business Idea and Design Thinking” at Advanced College of Engineering and Management on Jan 14. The episode was particularly successful, not only due to the active participation of the young entrepreneurs but also because of the excellent guest speakers. There were 40+ participants throughout the event.

The host for this episode was Larisha Lamichhane, who carried the event beautifully. The event started formally at 2:30 pm and the Campus Representative of Advanced College, Ankit shared his views on the development of Nepal and the recent activities and plans of NESRA, which he is a part of.

The guests for the event were Nikhil Agrawal, Arun Agrawal, Nirdesh Dwa, and Sujit Pathak. The speakers shared their journeys and gave insights into the brainstorming process to generate ideas for a business. The participants learned to polish their existing ideas by the end of the session.

First, the co-founder of Masta Kala, Nikhil Agrawal took the stage and gave a presentation on “Creating a Business Idea” where he claimed how luck, vision, and process play a huge role in making a business successful. When you start a business, you have a plan you are working on. But Nikhil explained exactly why everyone needs to have a second or third plan. He also talked about viewing things from a client’s perspective.

Then the design thinking process was broken down into the main 5 steps by Arun Agrawal, co-founder of Masta Kala. This demanded active interaction and participation from the participants. They needed to empathize with their partners who acted as users for a certain product. Then they built a prototype of the product using the materials provided. Overall, every step of design thinking was acted out and this helped participants understand it better.

The founder of the Veda app, Nirdesh Dwa, and managing director, Sujit Pathak gave a joint session on the journey of their business, and how the friends and team members you surround with determine the path for your business. They advised the audience to not let their mistakes demotivate them, as they believe every fallback and mistake made them stronger than before.

At the end of the session, the teams that reached the semi-finals were announced. Overall, the third episode of the Entrepreneurship talk series was conducted successfully.

This year, the OnCampus program, Hult at IOE, is supported by the title sponsor Masta Kala, Makkuse as gold sponsor, NMB Capital Ltd and Sharad Crafts and Creations as silver sponsors, Digital Ocean, Impact Hub, and Taskade as general sponsors, Protozoa Host, Daraz and Entrance Cafe as its partners.
