Keeping up with its ambition to spread awareness on Cyber Security Information Security Response Team Nepal successfully concluded its session on 25th January 2017 at Academia International College, Gwarko, Lalitpur. Academia Student’s conducted the program where Special Guest  Krishna Pd. Paudel IT Director from  Supreme Court of Nepal and other Guests Mr. Bikram Shrestha from Internet Society Nepal Chapter, Binita Shrestha from WISTEM Nepal, Mr. Bharatraj Upreti from ICT Journalist Development Forum were also present on the Cyber-security Awareness Campaign.

This campaign which is steadily taking its pace has been the conceptual work of Information Security Response Team Nepal with significant support from Academia College, Laba Nepal, ISOC Nepal, WISTEM Nepal, Easy Network Solution, CSIT Association of Nepal, Robotics Association of Nepal, Luklasoft showing a drive to help spread awareness on this issue.

Cybersecurity is a very delicate issue, and the threats in the cyberspace are real. Focusing on this reality, Mr. Amarraj Bhandari Internet access has become one of the main-streams. Similarly, he shared ATM Fraud cases on true incidents retrieved from Nepal Police, Crime Branch. During this, he urged the present audience to take this threat seriously and started equipping oneself with the necessary methods to stay secured.  He gave some useful tips and tricks for using an ATM.

Speaker from Laba Nepal Mr. Pratap Nembang demonstrates some useful tips to safeguard ourselves on the Internet and secure our end devices from cyber-attacks.

Mrs. Dibya tara Shakya a Speaker from Sunrise Bank shared her experience of almost being a victim of cyber Attack. Her case was similar to the one initially shared by Mr. Rajbhandari.  She focused the biggest mistakes companies make with data security are the failure to have a cutting-edge comprehensive Information Security plan and failure to understand the true threat against their employees, suppliers and ultimately, their data.

One of the Cyber Security Expert from Information Security Response Team Nepal Mr. Dilli Pd. Sharma explained some sort of lottery scam through the email where he was asked to send money in order to get the money he supposedly won. He also highlighted the need to be extremely careful while using the Internet as we may not know who we may come across. He even mentioned the lack in regulations for cybercrime in Nepal and asked CSIT Students to help the victim to come up with this serious matter which they have faced.

Mr. Bikram Shrestha (President of Internet Society Nepal Chapter)  also shared his view on the threats present in the cyber-space. he deemed the knowledge level especially in the youths who are the major users of the internet, as the crucial factor in the occurrence of cybercrime. Most of these cases arise due to the low level of awareness so he praised the efforts of Information Security Response Team Nepal for operating such campaign.

Many youths are getting in trouble while using emails, Facebook and other social sites but they are unaware about its precautions because there is no any other medium who can teach them, aware them about this subject practically. The students appreciated the presence of Information Security Response Team Nepal and the College Principal Mr. Rajesh Prasad Shrestha, Chairman itself wants Information Security Response Team Nepal to have another round of the event for their other faculty of students.
