Dubbo Font Nepal 125 Languages: Unify Writing System Language Script

A new font, ‘Dubbo,’ has been created to simplify writing for 125 languages spoken in Nepal. The font aims to unify writing systems for these languages.
Dubbo Font Nepal 125 Languages
The Nepal Pragya Pratishthan and Aawaran Publication collaborated on the project. Artist Ramesh Poudel designed the font based on recommendations from a study team. He handed over the font to the Pratishthan on Tuesday.
Key Features of ‘Dubbo’
The font includes 224 characters. It uses a layout different from Devanagari and Unicode. Despite its unique design, the font is easy to use.
Event Highlights
A program at the Pratishthan discussed the new font. Linguist Prof. Dr. Madhav Pokharel said the font would help languages without scripts.
Pratishthan’s Chancellor Bhupal Rai praised the team’s effort. Dr. Gopal Thakur, Chairperson of the Language Commission, said the font would bring uniformity to writing systems.
Dr. Amrit Yonjan Tamang, Coordinator of the study team, said the font would make writing easier. Team member Prof. Bhimnarayan Regmi presented the font’s features.
Study Team and Collaboration
The study team included Dr. Tamang, Dr. Vishnukumar Sinjali, Prof. Bhimnarayan Regmi, Dr. Taramani Rai, Amberjang Limbu, Prajna Trailokya Man Banepali, and Hansawati Kurmi.
The collaboration between the Pratishthan and Aawaran Publication is a milestone. It aims to preserve Nepal’s linguistic diversity.
