Mid-West University (MU) has decided to establish the ‘Kailash Satyarthi Chair’ in the name of Mr. Kailash Satyarthi from India. Mr. Satyarthi is the joint recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for the year 2014.
Addressing the Thirteenth Senate Meeting of the University held on December 2, 2022, at the Official Residence of the Prime Minister in Baluwatar, Kathmandu, Prof. Dr. Nanda Bahadur Singh, the Vice-Chancellor of Mid-West University informed that after receiving the confirmation from Mr. Kailash Satyarthi, the Executive Council of the University decided to establish the prestigious academic chair, followed by a formal recommendation by the Academic Council of the University.
The Kailash Satyarthi Chair has been established at the Mid-West University, Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences. The prestigious chair program will provide at least one fellowship award every year to doctoral degree candidates in specialized social and humanitarian issues concerning child rights and justice, exploitation, education for all, and other child and women-centric issues of high priority.
“This development is an outcome of Mr. Kailash Satyarthi’s official visit to the University on April 19, 2022, as the Chief Guest in the Second Convocation ceremony held at Birendranagar, Surkhet”, confirmed Prof. Singh sharing the hope of promoting this chair program as one of the institutional milestones of the University in future
