Industry Minister Orders Crackdown on Counterfeit Products as Over 100 Suspicious Items Seized

Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Gauri Yadav has directed the Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection to immediately halt the sale and distribution of counterfeit products following reports of fake goods being circulated in the market.

Acting on the minister’s instruction, the department intensified market inspections and seized more than 100 suspicious products suspected of being counterfeit.
According to the department, the confiscated items have been sent for laboratory testing to verify their quality and authenticity.
Surveillance Measures And Legal Action Warnings
Minister Yadav emphasized that counterfeit products directly threaten consumer health and rights, stating that negligence in controlling the sale of fake goods will not be tolerated.

Laboratory Testing Underway
Director General Moti Sapkota of the Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection stated that the department continues to receive reports of counterfeit products and is conducting regular inspections.
He confirmed that laboratory testing of the seized items is currently underway, and legal proceedings will be initiated based on the test results in accordance with prevailing laws.
Public Vigilance Urged
The department has urged consumers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or counterfeit products to the relevant authorities.
The government reiterated its commitment to maintaining a safe, fair, and well-regulated marketplace, warning that anyone endangering public health through fake goods will face strict legal action under consumer protection laws.
