In a groundbreaking initiative, ICT Frame Magazine, in collaboration with Madan Bhandari Memorial College, is gearing up to host the highly anticipated International Girls in ICT Day on April 25th, 2024. Set to commence from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., the event promises an engaging lineup of esteemed speakers, including academic luminaries, industry experts, and talented young girls in the ICT sector of Nepal.

International Girls in ICT Day 2024

This year’s celebration, aptly themed “Leadership”, aims to spotlight the pressing necessity for robust female role models in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) careers. Despite women constituting 40% of high-skill occupations worldwide, their representation in ICT-related fields remains disproportionately low.

The glaring absence of women in crucial domains such as software development, engineering, technology research, academia, and top-tier policymaking underscores a systemic disparity. Alarmingly, women are more likely to exit STEM roles compared to their male counterparts, perpetuating a leadership gender gap that pervades the industry.

A key focus of this year’s event is to address the challenges hindering the advancement of women in ICT, particularly their underrepresentation in leadership positions. In many instances, women find themselves relegated to junior or support roles, with limited prospects for career progression. Moreover, the dearth of female executives, ICT entrepreneurs, and policymakers in science and technology further compounds the issue.

To foster a conducive environment for female empowerment and leadership development in STEM, it is imperative to expose girls and young women to inspirational figures who have excelled in these fields. By dismantling barriers and nurturing a culture of inclusivity, the Girls in ICT Day 2024 theme endeavors to pave the way for a more equitable future, where women occupy prominent roles in shaping the trajectory of technology and innovation.

The event is made possible through the generous support of One Cover Private Limited, a dedicated information security company committed to championing diversity and inclusion in the ICT landscape.
