ISSMGE Outstanding Member Society Award 2026 Wins Nepal Geotechnical Society
14th July 2026, Kathmandu
In a historic milestone for Nepal’s engineering community, the Nepal Geotechnical Society (NGS) has been honored with the prestigious Outstanding Society Award 2026 at the 21st International Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ICSMGE) held in Vienna, Austria.
ISSMGE Outstanding Society Award
Presented on June 17, 2026, this global recognition places Nepal at the absolute forefront of international geotechnical engineering.
A Highly Competitive Global Honor
The award, institutionalized by the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE), is considered one of the highest accolades in the global geotechnical field.
This year, the honor was selectively bestowed upon only two member societies worldwide:
-
Nepal Geotechnical Society (NGS)
-
Australian Geomechanics Society (AGS)
The selection process was intensely rigorous and evaluated against 92 competing member societies spanning 96 countries. The award recognizes outstanding achievements, professional activities, and significant contributions made by NGS during the four years from 2022 to 2026.
“This is a proud achievement for Nepal and our entire engineering fraternity. It proves that our professional leadership, institutional growth, and research contributions are operating at a world-class level.” Nepal Geotechnical Society
Why the Nepal Geotechnical Society Won
The ISSMGE Best Member Society Award reflects excellence across multiple pillars of organizational success. The evaluation committee highlighted Nepal’s exceptional performance in:
Professional Leadership: Actively steering high-level engineering dialogues and research in the South Asian region.
Institutional Development: Expanding structural capacity, training local engineers, and advancing soil mechanics practices.
International Collaboration: Building strong bridges between Nepalese researchers and global engineering bodies to address complex geological challenges.
Kathmandu to Host ‘GeoMandu 2027’ next March
Building on this international momentum, NGS has officially announced that it will host the landmark GeoMandu 2027 conference.
Scheduled to take place in Kathmandu from March 17–19, 2027, the event is already shaping up to be one of the largest engineering gatherings in the region’s recent history.
