KIST Medical College Launches KIST At Home Healthcare Service
13th September 2026, Kathmandu
KIST Medical College and Teaching Hospital is preparing to launch a new home healthcare initiative called KIST At Home.
KIST At Home Healthcare Service
The service aims to bring hospital-grade medical care, diagnostic testing, and specialized clinical support directly to patients at home.
The new homecare unit is being introduced in partnership with Health At Home Nepal. Functioning as an integrated extension of KIST Teaching Hospital, the program connects patients to continuous medical care before, during, and after hospital treatment.
Comprehensive Range of At-Home Healthcare Services
KIST At Home offers a broad array of medical and supportive services designed for individuals who face difficulties visiting the hospital regularly:
- Home nursing care and home doctor visits
- Specialized physiotherapy sessions
- Elderly care, post-surgical rehabilitation, and caregiver services
- Chronic disease management, end-of-life care, and palliative support
- Home sample collection for blood and laboratory tests
- Vaccination programs, post-test medical consultations, and telemedicine services
- Medical equipment rental services based on patient needs
- Home-based intensive care, critical patient management, and emergency transport facilities
Pre-Hospital Care and Integrated Emergency Support
The program incorporates early intervention and pre-hospital support during emergency situations. Patient conditions can be assessed on-site, with arrangements made for swift ambulance transportation to KIST Teaching Hospital if higher-level medical intervention is required.
The system creates a smooth continuum between home-based monitoring and central hospital facilities, ensuring patients remain linked to the hospital network.
Specialist Network and Digital Health Management
Patients using KIST At Home remain integrated into the hospital care system. Specialist physicians, medical officers, nurses, and allied health professionals can be deployed directly from KIST Teaching Hospital as required.
Key operational features of the program include:
- Direct Laboratory Integration: Blood and diagnostic samples collected at home are processed directly at the KIST Teaching Hospital laboratory, with reports delivered digitally to the patient.
- Centralized Record Management: Patient medical history and diagnostic reports are stored and managed through the hospital Health Information Management System, maintaining data privacy while facilitating medical reviews.
Focus on Elderly and Long-Term Care Needs
KIST At Home is designed to benefit patients requiring long-term care and monitoring. The initiative provides specialized value for senior citizens, individuals recovering from surgeries, chronic disease patients, and individuals requiring regular nursing care or end-of-life support.
By combining the clinical infrastructure of KIST Teaching Hospital with the homecare expertise of Health At Home Nepal, KIST At Home expands healthcare access beyond traditional hospital walls.
