This initiative marks Kitini as the first public school in the Lalitpur district to offer students these future-ready skills, showcasing a strong commitment to enhancing students’ technical expertise and creativity.

Launch of Kitini Innovation Lab

On October 25, 2024, Kitini Innovation Lab was inaugurated during a ceremony attended by District Governor (DG) Rtr. Rajendra Man Serchan of Rotary International District 3292 and Mr. Balmukunda Ghimire, Chairman of the School Management Committee. The event saw esteemed guests, including the Rotary Club of Yala’s President, Rtr. Dharmendra Shakya, Principal Saroj K.C., and Deputy Principal Dinesh Thapa, along with a gathering of Rotarians, teachers, parents, and students. DG Serchan expressed his delight at witnessing this significant initiative, promising to mobilize resources to support District 3292’s basic education program, which includes expanding essential 21st-century skill training in local schools.

Rotary Club of Yala and Dursikshya Education Network Support

The Rotary Club of Yala collaborated with Kitini Secondary School to launch the coding and robotics program and establish the Kitini Innovation Lab. Designed to serve a cohort of over 60 middle school students, this initiative provides year-long, hands-on courses in coding and robotics. The Dursikshya Education Network in Kathmandu contributed technical support, ensuring students receive guidance on programming concepts, robotics, and practical problem-solving using technology.

This venture follows a successful coding and robotics boot camp held last year by the Rotary Club of Yala in three public schools within Godawari Municipality, which gauged student interest and the feasibility of introducing a full curriculum. With the launch of the Kitini Innovation Lab, students now have access to a workspace fully outfitted with the kits and tools necessary to hone 21st-century skills that are instrumental in securing future career opportunities.

Empowering Students for the Future

Chairman Balmukunda Ghimire acknowledged the importance of this initiative in his address, emphasizing how the coding and robotics curriculum would enhance students’ creativity and technological proficiency. He urged the Rotary Club of Yala to maintain ongoing support for the program to ensure students continue benefiting from this invaluable learning experience.

A Call for Government Support in Technical Education

While this initiative is modest in scale, its impact on the community is profound, highlighting the need for government and other stakeholders to support and regularize coding and robotics education in public schools. By providing this curriculum, Kitini Secondary School and the Rotary Club of Yala are helping to break down barriers and encourage institutional support for essential skill development in young students.
