Kathmandu University (KU) Partners Saptakoshi Municipality to Drive Digital Innovation and Sustainable Governance
14th June 2026, Kathmandu
In a major step toward building smart, tech-enabled local communities, the Kathmandu University School of Engineering (KUSOE) has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Saptakoshi Municipality.
KU Partners Saptakoshi Municipality
This strategic partnership aims to transform local governance, education, and sustainable development through cutting-edge technology and innovation.
The collaboration will be driven primarily by Kathmandu University’s Center for Digital Public Infrastructure and Artificial Intelligence (DPIAI). By bridging the gap between academic expertise and municipal governance, the initiative is set to deliver meaningful, long-term impacts for the Nepalese citizens of Saptakoshi.
Key Pillars of the KUSOE and Saptakoshi Municipality Partnership
The MoU outlines a comprehensive framework designed to modernize public services and empower the local community. The collaboration will focus on several critical areas:
Technology-Enabled Governance: Implementing digital public infrastructure to streamline public service delivery, making local government more transparent, efficient, and accessible.
Empowering Education & Youth: Upskilling local teachers with modern digital tools and creating tech-focused opportunities to empower the youth of Saptakoshi.
Disaster Resilience: Leveraging AI and data-driven solutions to build robust systems for disaster preparedness, risk mitigation, and rapid response.
Smart Agriculture: Introducing digital agriculture techniques to support local farmers, optimize crop yields, and foster sustainable farming practices.
Innovation & Entrepreneurship: Fostering a localized culture of innovation, providing resources and mentorship to support grassroots entrepreneurs and tech startups.
Driving Impact Through Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI)
By leveraging Kathmandu University’s DPIAI center, the partnership will bring high-level technical research straight into practical, real-world municipal applications. Rather than relying on generic, one-size-fits-all software, the university will collaborate closely with local leaders to design custom, technology-driven solutions tailored specifically to Saptakoshi’s unique geographical and socioeconomic needs.
“We look forward to translating this collaboration into meaningful impact for the citizens of Saptakoshi Municipality.” — Kathmandu University Statement
This partnership sets a promising precedent for how Nepalese academic institutions and local governments can co-create sustainable, smart cities from the ground up.
