In a groundbreaking move to enhance tourism and technological education, the Tourism Development Council (TDC) and Lumbini Technological University (LTU) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Nepalgunj.

Collaborative Vision for Tourism and Education
The MoU sets a foundation for cooperation between TDC and LTU to drive skill development, research, and stakeholder engagement. The collaboration focuses on modernizing the tourism and hospitality industry while equipping graduates with real-world skills through tailored programs and certifications.
Key objectives include:
Capacity Building: Developing specialized training programs and certification courses for tourism and hospitality professionals.
Research and Innovation: Conducting studies on tourism development, indigenous food promotion, and market analysis.
Stakeholder Engagement: Identifying specific training needs across districts to ensure impactful implementation.
Leaders Share Insights on the Partnership
Mr. Reg Bahadur Bhandari, Registrar of LTU, emphasized the university’s mission to bridge the gap between theoretical education and practical applications.
“Lumbini Technological University is committed to producing graduates capable of transforming sectors like tourism through technology. By integrating digital tools and modern systems, we aim to revolutionize tourism services and unlock growth potential,” said Mr. Bhandari.
Mr. Ramu Joshi, Executive Director of TDC, highlighted the significance of research in understanding markets and delivering quality tourism experiences.
“Tourism must go beyond showcasing attractions. It requires education, research, and innovation to empower communities and ensure sustainable growth,” he explained.
Technology and Tourism: A Game-Changer
Mr. Chiranjibi Adhikari, Vice-President of the Federation of Computer Association Nepal (CAN), discussed the pivotal role of technology in addressing location-related challenges. “Integrating tools like Google Maps and embedding accurate geolocation data can significantly enhance tourist experiences. It’s time to prioritize technological precision in our strategies,” Mr. Adhikari stated.
Strategic Implementation for Sustainable Tourism
Mr. Shreeram Sigdel, President of NATTA Banke Chapter, advocated for a focused approach by TDC. He urged the establishment of a Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) to promote tourism systematically.
“Cultural elements in homestays and serving organic, cultural, and religious foods are key to enriching local tourism experiences,” added Mr. Sigdel.
Echoing this, Mr. Krishna Lal Chaudhary, General Secretary of the Homestay Federation of Nepal, emphasized the economic benefits of homestays.
“For rural areas, homestays provide a pathway for economic growth while preserving local culture and traditions,” he explained.
Roles and Responsibilities of TDC and LTU
Under the agreement:
TDC will fund projects, engage stakeholders, and provide necessary resources.
LTU will design and administer training programs, conduct assessments, and issue certifications.
The MoU is valid for the fiscal year 2081-2082, with renewal options based on mutual agreement.
