In a significant move to enhance transparency and efficiency in public procurement, Finance Minister Barshaman Pun has announced the creation of a Government e-Marketplace (GeM) during his presentation of the budget for the fiscal year 2081/82 BS at the joint meeting of the federal parliament.

The newly established e-market platform will facilitate the direct procurement of products and services by government agencies.

This initiative aims to streamline the purchasing process, reduce corruption, and ensure better use of public funds by allowing for the direct purchase of goods and services listed on the platform.

Minister Pun emphasized that the GeM will improve the transparency of the procurement process, ensuring that all transactions are visible and traceable.

This move is expected to not only improve the efficiency of government procurement but also foster a more competitive market environment.

The introduction of the GeM is part of a broader set of reforms included in the budget, targeting various sectors to promote economic growth and development.

The government is optimistic that this digital procurement gateway will lead to more effective and accountable public spending.

With this innovative approach, Nepal joins a growing list of countries that are leveraging digital platforms to modernize their procurement processes, ultimately benefiting the public and boosting confidence in government operations.
